Norman M. Davis
Introductory Biography

Norm has over twenty years of experience in management and human resources. His last corporate position was as Director of Human Resources for Aetna Life & Casualty Insurance Company in Hartford, Connecticut. Before Aetna, Norm was Manager of Health Care Utilization Review at Blue Cross and Blue Shield in North Haven, Connecticut. His present work includes being a full-time management professor at Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, along with running an independent organizational and diversity consulting practice.

After obtaining a bachelor's degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Norm earned a master's degree in Psychology from the University of New Haven. Norm completed a doctoral program in Organizational Behavior at the Union Institute in Cincinnati. His graduate research and consulting practice have focused on organizational development and managing a diverse work force.

A captivating speaker, Norm has spoken Nationally to colleges, educational organizations, and businesses on why organizations should manage and value diversity in the workplace. He was a speaker at the Federal Government's Minority Recruiting Symposium in Washington, D. C. and a consultant and facilitator at the University of Notre Dame's "Year of Cultural Diversity", in South Bend, Indiana. Norm has done organizational diversity work at numerous organizations that were seeking to get full utilization from all employees at all levels. Among those organizations were, the United Technologies Companies, Pfizer Chemical, Shawmut Bank, Aetna Life & Casualty and AT&T.

Norm, who has a passion for better utilizing the diversity in the American work force, strongly believes that it goes beyond issues of race and gender. For example, he believes that not fully utilizing the contribution of an over-weight white male is just as much of an organizational loss as is the under-utilization of a minority female with a non-Ivy League degree. Further, over ten years ago Norm began to recognize organizational issues that involved functional diversity. For example, insurance companies have experienced considerable strain in trying to integrate managed care operations into traditional indemnity operations. In some organizations those two approaches with their own cultural paradigms, have mixed like oil and water.

A native of Rockford, Illinois, Norm lives in New Haven, Connecticut with his wife Carolyn and their daughter Morgan. He is a lover of tennis and jazz and his fantasy people are Bjorn Borg and John Coletrane at the peak of their careers.
